NAI Alliance Retail Division recently completed their market survey of the Reno Sparks Market for the second quarter of 2011. Excluding regional malls, their findings show total rentable square footage at 13,057,174 and total vacant square feet at 2,321,420. This gives an overall vacancy rate of 17.78%, line shop vacancy of 21.99% and anchor vacancy of 14.82%. Total net absorption for the second quarter was 541 square feet and the total gross absorption was 73,388 square feet.
Kelly Bland, Senior Vice President of NAI Alliance reports, “After a hopeful start at the beginning of the year, the activity in the retail market has subsided a bit halfway through. There are still signs that absorption figures will trend up as the year progresses and tenants like Ross and Wal-Mart open stores that have been under construction. However, with the announcement of the closure of Borders, this will add more vacant square footage onto the market. It’s a great time to be a tenant looking for space in the market. We’re getting new and relocating tenants great deals right now.”

NAI Alliance is pleased to welcome Chase Whittemore to the Office Properties Group as an Associate. He joins the team of Scott Shanks, SIOR, Dominic Brunetti, CCIM and Misty Barker-Cryer. Chase will specialize in office leasing, sales, subleasing, tenant and landlord representations, market knowledge and research. Chase is a third generation Nevadan who graduated from the University of Nevada, with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. He received his Master of Science in Real Estate and Construction Management from the University of Denver, Daniel’s College of Business. Chase is a member of the Builder’s Association of Northern Nevada, Nevada Basketball Team’s Starting Five, University of Nevada Alumni Association, and is a co-founder of Son’s of Nevada. He is actively involved in our community through the Whittemore-Peterson Institute for Neuro-Immune Disease.

Kimball Midwest has purchased the 198,875sf former Scolari’s warehouse building located at 251-259 S. McCarran Blvd. Scolari’s will continue to lease 38,875sf from Kimball and SK Foods is leasing 40,000sf of the building. Kimball Midwest will occupy roughly 66,000sf. The remaining 54,000sf will be available for lease. Dave Simonsen, CCIM, SIOR; J.
